Mentorship is weak. Long-time employees don't resist because they lack mentorship; they resist because they fear obsolescence. Mentorship programs often feel like remedial training.
Real Fix: Align AI adoption with incentives. If using AI makes their job easier or gets them a bonus, they will adopt it. If it’s just "more work to learn a new tool," they will kill it.
"Addressing compliance early" is vague. Most companies let compliance be a blocker.
Real Fix: You need governance, not just compliance. Define the "sandbox" clearly (e.g., "You can put these internal docs in, but never customer PII"). If you wait for total safety, you will never launch.
Champions need authority. "Assigning a champion" usually means giving an extra task to an overworked mid-level manager.
Real Fix: The champion must have executive backing. If the CEO isn't using the AI, the "champion" is just a cheerleader with no power.
Pilot Purgatory. Starting with pilots is smart, but many companies stay in the pilot phase forever because they pick low-value use cases.
Real Fix: Pick a pilot that solves a bleeding neck problem—something that costs the company tangible money right now. If the pilot is just "cool," it won't scale.
