A Crossroads of Faith: To Stay or Seek a New Horizon in Europe

This question has been weighing heavily on my heart lately. As a Brazilian immigrant in the US, I've experienced the incredible opportunities this country offers alongside its inherent challenges. Where does God truly desire me to build a life and nurture my family? With this question in mind, I've been seeking His guidance through fervent prayer and deep reflection.

America: A Land of Contrasts

While I am grateful for the abundance of work opportunities and the generally low crime rate in my city, certain aspects of American life still feel somewhat alien to me.

  • Social Isolation: I often observe a lack of community engagement, particularly among parents and their children. Playdates seem less common, and genuine male-to-male friendships can be hard to cultivate.
  • Focus on the Individual: The lack of free education and healthcare can create immense financial pressure on families, sometimes discouraging preventative care. This individualistic approach, while understandable, can sometimes feel isolating.
  • Cultural Disconnect: Finding spaces that truly celebrate and nourish the diverse cultural tapestry of America can be a challenge, especially for children.

The Positives of This Land

  • Abundant Opportunities: This country offers a wealth of professional and entrepreneurial opportunities, allowing individuals to pursue their dreams and build successful careers.
  • A Relative Haven of Safety: While challenges exist, I am grateful for the generally low crime rate in my city, providing a sense of security for my family.
  • Access to Quality Education: While public education has its challenges, the availability of excellent private school options provides valuable educational choices for my children.
  • A Foundation of Faith: Our consistent church attendance provides a strong spiritual foundation for our family and a supportive community.
  • Responsible Financial Habits: We have learned the importance of responsible financial management, avoiding the pitfalls of excessive debt and cultivating a healthy relationship with money.

A Glimpse of Europe: A Different Kind of Life

Europe, with its rich history, strong social safety nets, and emphasis on community, has always intrigued me. Imagine raising my children in a society where healthcare is a right, education is highly valued, and cultural experiences are woven into the fabric of daily life.

The Brazilian in My Soul

As a Brazilian, I deeply value the importance of family, community, and vibrant cultural expression. I yearn for a place where these values are deeply ingrained in the social fabric.

Seeking God's Will: A Leap of Faith

Ultimately, the decision to stay or move is a deeply personal one. It requires careful consideration, prayerful discernment, and a leap of faith. I believe that God has a unique plan for my family, and I am committed to seeking His guidance through prayer, reflection, and seeking wise counsel. Perhaps the answer lies in finding a community within the US that better aligns with my values – a neighborhood where neighbors connect, cultural events thrive, and a strong sense of community prevails.

Trusting in Divine Grace

I trust that God will provide the wisdom, strength, and opportunities we need to make the best decision for our family. I will continue to seek His guidance and trust in His loving care, knowing that whatever path we choose, He will be with us every step of the way. I will embrace this crossroads with faith, knowing that God's grace will sustain us throughout this journey.
